President Ronald Reagan Predicted This Mess - Video
Our country is in a mess, and Ronald Reagan saw it coming.
More on this subject after I rant on the 20-year Berlin speeches given by Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama (who was 'too busy' to make it there in person, so sent in an audio speech), and others.
Did you know not one person mentioned Ronald Reagan in any of those speeches?
This is the man who, when he went to West Berlin in June, 1987, overruled his own Secretary of State George P. Schultz and National Security Advisor, Gen. Colin Powell. They did not want him to challenge the reforming Soviet ruler, Mikhail Gorbachev, directly. Don’t embarrass Gorbachev and make our negotiations harder, they and the foreign policy establishment said.
This is the man who inserted "tear down this wall" back into his speech after it was x'd out! This was a President with chutzpah!
This was a man who truly loved America and would never have apologized for us!
Now back to the original paragraph. In this video, please listen to what President Ronald Reagan predicted would happen to our country if we didn't teach our children that America is freedom - if we didn't quit rewriting American history. Well, he was right and now we are suffering for it. Our freedoms are being eroded daily right before our eyes!
Take a moment, listen to the video, and think about what President Reagan said over 20 years ago.
Sobering, isn't it?
2009 April Lorier Perspective
“But change would not mean rejection of the past. Like a tree growing strong through the seasons, rooted in the Earth and drawing life from the Sun, so, too, positive change must be rooted in traditional values—in the land, in culture, in family and community—and it must take its life from the eternal things, from the source of all life, which is faith. Such change will lead to new understandings, new opportunities, to a broader future in which the tradition is not supplanted but finds its full flowering. That is the future beckoning to your generation.” -Ronald Reagan

I remember this from when I was young. I have to admit that I was not a fan of Ronnie at that time. There are still some things he did I don't agree with, but I have to say that looking back, he certainly was the best president of my lifetime.
Despite his human faults and shortcomings, I feel he was possibly the only President of my lifetime who truly LOVED this once great nation rather than loved the privileges of the Presidency. I never thought I'd miss him as much as I do!
This short speech says more about what America should be than ANYTHING the Obaminator has spewed forth; ever!
Great post, April! I'd love to duplicate it on my blog but not without your permission. If that is not possible, I will definitely post about it and link back to here.
Thank you for this!
Reagan's speech was touching and held much truth. America is supposed to be the land of freedom, yet freedom is being abused. Rights are being taken away with the label of 'freedom', but how do we have freedom if we aren't allowed to pray in certain places. Reagan obviously saw it coming. I love his reference to family dinner at the end.
Thank you for sharing, April.
As Reagan said, it all begins at the dinner table! Thanks for stopping by, Kathy!
Mike, I agree with what you said about 'my man' Reagan! I always loved him, and enjoy visiting his place in Simi as often as I can.
Peg, I answered you by email. I do hope hearing President Reagan speak brought some sanity to you. It certainly did to me!
Excellent points were made in this video from Ronald Reagan. For your readers who are not Californians, let me just say that before the great Reagan Revolution swept America, it began in California. History shows that the tremendous counter-cultural tsunami that swelled in 1960s California was met --- head-on --- by the philosophy, and subsequent policies, of Governor Ronald Reagan. His positive vision of California's future advanced California as a society. It worked. Americans were wise to elect Reagan as President, and in such an historic landslide. The Reagan Revolution is like a time-released capsule which progresses in stages. I feel that another stage is upon us now, both in California and in America. Videos like this are timely and appropriate, given our current set of challenges.
Videos of Reagan speaking give me some hope even though he is no longer with us. His spirit of optimism lives on and encourages us, even in this mess we're in.
It doesn't surprise me that they didn't mention him, since everything has to be their own idea and no conservative ever has a good idea.
There will never be another Ronald Reagan, but there could be another conservative who could ignite some hope within us. As Christians, we just need to keep petitioning The One who is Sovereign!
