ABC and '90 Minutes In Heaven' Author
Don Piper is a Baptist pastor from Texas and author of the best-selling book "90 Minutes in Heaven." Recently, ABC News did a report on Piper, a sign perhaps, that where other testimonies may fail at times to get people's attention, divine experiences concerning the afterlife hit people where they're most vulnerable—death.
Piper's heavenly experience included the commonalities of "beyond spectacular" music, unique aromas, and the presence of others who had died before him.
"It was the most real that that ever happened to me," he said of Heaven, after being horrifically injured in a car accident and then declared dead for 90 minutes before coming back to life.
The ABC article also details how Dick Onarecker and his wife had pulled up to the accident and prayed over Piper even though they were told he was dead. "The Lord just impressed on me very emphatically very urgently that I was to pray for him," said Onarecker.
Piper was quoted as saying he regained consciousness and heard Onarecker singing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." When he found himself joining Onarecker in song, Piper added, "He's singing, and, and I'm singing, and I'm thinking to myself, 'What happened here?'"
"It's not that I mind being here [on earth], I'm actually very excited to be here," Piper said, but "this doesn't seem real to me now, because I know how temporal and fleeting it is.
"I know it happened in my very soul, my very being," he said. "It is now my reality. And so I can't wait to go back there."
